Booking Platform Market Share in Australian Healthcare (2026)
We crawled 22,934 unique clinic domains across Australia to map which booking platforms are actually in use. The short version: Cliniko leads the pack, Wix Bookings is a surprising #2, and 45.9% of clinics show no detectable booking system at all.
The Big Picture
54.1% of Australian clinic websites expose a detectable booking system signal. The remaining 45.9% either rely on phone or email booking, use a system that leaves no public footprint, or manage appointments through tools we haven't fingerprinted yet.
Of the clinics where we do detect a booking system, the market is fragmented. No single vendor holds more than 10.3% of the total addressable market. The dominant platform varies dramatically by clinic type.
Top 10 Booking Platforms by Domain Count
Ranked by the number of unique clinic domains where the platform was detected via public website signals. Percentages are calculated against the full 22,934 domain universe, not just those with a booking system detected.

Booking Adoption by Clinic Type
Booking adoption rates vary widely across verticals. Physiotherapists lead at 83%, while psychologists trail at just 46.6%. Each vertical also gravitates toward different platforms. Here are the top 3 booking platforms for the five largest clinic categories, along with their overall booking adoption rate.
Physiotherapists
83.0% have booking
Medical Clinics
73.6% have booking
Chiropractors
72.5% have booking
Dentists
62.5% have booking
Psychologists
46.6% have booking
Booking Type Distribution
Not all booking systems are implemented the same way. We classify detected booking signals into four categories based on how they appear on the clinic website.
| Booking Type | Domains | % of Total |
|---|---|---|
| External Vendor | 7,840 | 34.2% |
| Lead Form | 6,978 | 30.4% |
| Not Detected | 4,168 | 18.2% |
| Embedded | 3,804 | 16.6% |
External Vendor means the clinic links out to a third-party booking page (e.g. HotDoc, HealthEngine). Embedded means a booking widget is loaded directly on the clinic's own website. Lead Form captures patient details (name, phone, preferred time) for the clinic to call back, rather than confirming a slot instantly.
Key Takeaways
Cliniko dominates as both PMS and booking. With 2,371 detected domains (10.3% share), Cliniko is the single most common booking signal across Australia. Its strength is driven almost entirely by allied health, particularly chiropractors and physiotherapists.
Wix Bookings is a surprising #2. At 1,352 domains (5.9%), a generic, non-healthcare tool sits in second place. This signals a large segment of clinics taking a DIY approach to online booking, likely smaller practices without dedicated healthcare software.
HotDoc owns GP and medical booking. With 661 medical clinic domains, HotDoc is the clear leader in the GP segment. It functions as both a patient-facing booking marketplace and a deep PMS integration layer, making it difficult to displace.
Psychologists have the lowest booking adoption. At just 46.6%, psychologists trail every other major clinic type. Many still rely on phone or email to schedule appointments. For booking vendors, this vertical represents a significant adoption gap.
45.9% of clinics have no detectable booking system. That is over 10,500 clinic domains with no public booking signal. For booking platform vendors, this is a massive greenfield opportunity, particularly in psychology and specialty clinics.
Every vertical has a different dominant tool. Cliniko for allied health, HotDoc for GPs, D4W eAppointments for dentists, Halaxy for psychologists. There is no single booking platform that spans all of healthcare. Vertical specialization is the norm.
Methodology
Data sourced from the Yoluko clinic intelligence platform. 22,934 unique clinic domains across Australia are crawled every week. Booking detection is based on public website signals: embedded widgets, JavaScript includes, iframe sources, link patterns, and DNS records. "Not detected" means no public signal was found, not that no booking system is in use.
